The RESTART® Program is a group class that teaches the fundamentals of nutrition while also doing a sugar detox in a fun group setting. What Will I Learn in RESTART® Each Week?
Week One: Preparation
In Week One, we’ll fill out a Toxicity Questionnaire to get a snapshot of how our bodies are feeling before RESTART® (don’t worry; this is for your eyes only) and then seal it away in an envelope. We’ll talk about the structure of the five weeks of the program, give you a Food Journal sheet if you wish to track your food and mood throughout the process, set our intentions for the program, and give you The List: what to eat and what not to eat throughout RESTART®!
Week Two: Digestion
In Week Two, we will have officially begun the sugar detox portion of RESTART®. We’ll talk about the three macronutrients: protein, fat, and carbohydrates. We’ll talk about how digestion is supposed to work in our bodies and how it can go wrong. You’ll get some tools for tracking your own digestion, learn how to tweak the macronutrients in your meals to suit your needs based on how you are feeling shortly after eating, and learn about specific foods that can help support your body’s natural healing processes as we complete RESTART®.
Week Three: Blood Sugar Regulation
In Week Three, we will cover how blood sugar regulation works, and how the Standard American Diet we’re eating is making us tired, irritable, and constantly craving! Luckily, the habits we are setting with RESTART® will help our bodies naturally bring blood sugar back into balance, so we no longer have to be slaves to our sugar and carb cravings.
Week Four: Fats
In Week Four, we will talk about a much-misunderstood topic: the importance of FATS! We’ll cover fat’s many crucial roles in the body and why it’s so important that we get the right kinds of fats in our diet, as well as to avoid the bad ones.
Week Five: Celebration & Moving Forward
In Week Five, we CELEBRATE! You’ve now completed the RESTART® Program. HOORAY! You will complete a new Toxicity Questionnaire and, as ceremoniously as you like, open up the envelope containing your old Questionnaire and see just how much healing your body has accomplished during its vacation from sugar! We will talk about reintroducing foods after RESTART®, and we’ll give you some tools for listening to your body to know if a food is being perceived as a stressor.

The RESTART® Group Sugar Detox Challenge is a 5-Week program meeting for 1.5 hours at the same day and time each week of the challenge. Some classes include 30 minutes for Restart-friendly snacks and socializing at the beginning.

I decided to become a Nutritional Therapy Practitioner after I experienced a long journey back to my own health. I ate a Standard American Diet until I was about 24 and struggled with weight, skin problems, fatigue, depression, anxiety, and horrible PMS. Much of this cleared up by slowly making a transition to a more low-inflammatory, nutrient-dense diet, but the most progress I made by far in my own health was when I gave my body a vacation from sugar. Even so, I still struggle with sugar addiction and need to get myself “back on track” from time to time. The times that I’ve done sugar detoxes with the help of another person have been FAR more successful and rewarding than the times I’ve done them on my own. That’s why I’m so excited about being a RESTART® Program instructor: the power of this program comes from doing it with the guidance and support of an instructor and peers.
You may be wondering if this is something that you can do, and I’m here to tell you you absolutely can. Some of the effects from this program might be weight loss, better skin, calmness, clarity of thought, mood stability, less or no joint pain, better sleep, elimination of sugar/carb cravings, more appreciation for the taste of real food and more!
