Epsom salt and has some amazing therapeutic properties, and taking an Epsom salt bath is a great way to get some magnesium into your body, since it absorbs very well transdermally (through the skin).
Among the many benefits of taking an Epsom salt bath are:
- Calming tension
- Relaxing the muscles
- Supporting blood sugar
- Helping relieve constipation
- Detoxifying the body
To take an Epsom salt bath, dissolve two cups of Epsom salts in a comfortably warm (but not hot) bath.
Pouring it into the stream of water filling up the tub can help it to dissolve, as can swirling it around in the bath with your hands.
Soak for 15-20 minutes for maximum benefit.
Use the time to listen to music, an audiobook, or just take some time to be mindful and think!
If you don’t have a bathtub, you can also use a shallow plastic tub to soak your feet in, dissolving a cup of Epsom salts in the warm water.
Dr. Teal’s is a popular brand that is relatively easy to find at any grocery store or drugstore, but any Epsom salt will do.
If you wish, you can add 5 drops of a calming essential oil such as lavender or chamomile.
If you decide you like taking Epsom salt baths regularly, save money by buying it in bulk (here’s a 19-lb releasable bulk bag).
